Groth Cabernet Sauvignon –  makes me think of the anonymous understudy in a Broadway play. This wine is consistently ranked in the low 90’s by Wine Spectator and Wine Enthusiast yet it continues to fly under the radar. From the Oakville area in Napa, it is typical of the rich, balanced fruits and assertive tannin flavors  of the region. The wine is aged  for 22 months adding a vanilla note to the rich black cherry and blackberry present in this soft but full wine. Definitely a hidden gem. You won’t want to miss this one!

Groth Chardonnay – I love a chardonnay that drinks like a red wine and this one delivers on all counts. Aged using a long, cool fermentation process in both new and old barrels, this is a complex chardonnay. Its full body is further advanced by whole cluster pressing and “sur lie” aging.* This process had layers of toasty creaminess. My favorite attributes in a Chardonnay, especially during the colder months.

Groth Sauvignon Blanc – Like its siblings Cab and Chard, this wine is comprised of layers of flavor. The grapes come from different microclimates of the Napa Valley providing both the melon and citrus of a

Sav Blanc with the crisp base of the cooler Napa regions. This a balanced Sauvignon Blanc that even has a bit of creaminess. Definitely a year round choice.

* Sur lie aging is the process of letting the wine sit “on the lees” for a longer period to extract more flavor. Lees are the coarse sediment of yeast cells and grape particles that accumulate during fermentation.
